読み書きに難しさのある学習者への英語教育:多様な学びの保障

社会問題となっている不登校、引きこもり。様々な原因が考えられるが、学びたいけどその努力に関わらず学びがうまくいかないといったジレンマを抱える学習者の姿が少なからず確認される。日本語では顕在化しにくいディクレシア(読み書き障害)なども,中学校で英語の学習が始まって明らかになる場合も多くあり,通常学校や通常学級での早い段階での日本語と英語の読み書きアセスメントの実施は,学習がうまくいかないことが自尊心喪失につながったり,うつや不登校に陥ることを防ぐことになると期待される。

Teaching English to Learners with Learning Disabilities and Learning Differences

Now in Japan, we face social issues; school refusal or withdrawal from school. There may be a variety of reasons, but we can recognize children who are eager to learn only to fail. Those children may have difficulties in reading or writing, however, that problem cannot be easily found in Japanese language. Therefore those learners with dyslexia suddenly happen to be trapped in learning English when they start to learn it. However hard they try, it is very hard for them to learn English, which leads them to refuse to go to school and stay at home, losing self-esteem. Only if people around them can notice and give some accommodations, they could survive in school. We need to find their problem at earlier stage.
